VMIX was founded in 2005 by Greg Kostello, Terry Ash, and Ian Miller and executives and engineers from MP3.com, Universal Music Group, Twentieth Century Fox, Apple Computer and Netscape. The official VMIX Web site launched on October 13, 2005. The company has received venture capital from Mission Ventures and Enterprise Partners Venture Capital (EPVC)
VMIX has been nominated 2006 Website of the Year for "Best Video-Sharing Site" in the UK.
